DIY Fish Glasses

Do you want to add a personal touch to your drinking glasses and make them stand out at your next gathering? Look no further! In this step-by-step tutorial, I show you how to temporarily add paper images to drinking glasses. With a few simple materials and a bit of creativity, you can transform plain glassware into unique and eye-catching fish drinking glasses that reflect your style and personality without the commitment of a permanent change. Let’s get started!

DIY Fish Glasses

Supplies:

  1. Drinking glasses (glass with smooth surface)
  2. Printed paper images (You can download my Fish template HERE)
  3. Photo paper for printing
  4. Clear adhesive decoupage glue (I used Mod Podge dishwasher proof)
  5. Paint brush
  6. Exacto knife or scissors
  7. A clean cloth

Begin by selecting the paper fish images you want to transfer onto the drinking glasses. Print them out onto a good quality photo paper and ensure that the images are sized to fit comfortably on the surface of your glassware.

Carefully cut out the selected images using an exacto knife or a pair of scissors. Carefully cut around intricate designs for the best results. After you’ve cut out the fish shapes give them a coat of sealer on both sides and let dry.

Before applying the images, ensure that your drinking glasses are clean and free of any dust or fingerprints. It might help to wipe them down thoroughly with a clean cloth.

Using a paint brush, apply a thin and even layer of decoupage glue to the backside of your paper image. Make sure to cover the entire area that will be in contact with the glass.

Gently press the paper image onto the outside surface of the drinking glass. Smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles with your fingers, working from the center towards the edges. Take your time to ensure a neat and clean application. Use a damp cloth to clean off any glue that oozes out from under the fish.

To protect the paper image from moisture and wear, you can apply more sealer over the surface. This step is particularly useful if you plan to hand wash the glasses and use more than once. Allow the glasses to dry completely.

Your glasses are ready to use and enjoy without the commitment of permanent decorations on them. Enjoy!
