Halloween is a great time to DIY your decorations. I like to get started early making decorations so that I have them ready for the fall. These vintage inspired DIY Halloween noisemakers are easy to make from inexpensive materials.
I know that there are a lot of steps and photos in this post, but these are really not difficult to make. Â The only tricky part is getting the cat graphics to the size you need to cover the box or container you are using. Â I originally got the cat faces from the Graphics Fairy website but they have since moved – to where I know not. But you can find lots of images for cat faces by searching web for “vintage cat head illustrations” .
This project works best if you have the reverse of each image so that they line up when glued to the container. You can use editing software like photoshop or even canva or word to do this.

Supplies:
Wooden dowels
Cat face graphics printed on card stock
Container – I used a cheese container
Decorative paper like scrapbook pages
Glue
Jingle Bells, beans or rice
(depending on the sound you want)
Tissue fringe and trims
Paint
Ribbon

Add your rattles to your container. I used jingle bells but you could also use dried beans or rice.

Paint your container just enough so that anything showing after the cat and ribbon are glued on will be painted. Also paint the dowel if you want.

Poke a hole in the container and using hot glue and scrap paper glue the dowel in place.

Add your jingle bells or whatever you are using for your noise maker to the inside of the container.
Glue the container shut with the rattlers inside. Add the ribbon trim to the outside of the container.

Cut out the image of the cat.

Glue the ribbon around the edge of the container.

Cut some decorative paper and apply to the back of the image.

Add tissue or crepe paper fringe to the container where the dowel goes in.
Wrap the dowel with ribbon if you want. Here is how they turned out when finished:

To find cat head illustrations – use the term “vintage cat head illustrations” to search for the images you need.

Add difference colors of tissue fringe and ribbon to vary the look of your cats.

I like that this one looks a bit like a cheerleader’s pompom.

I feel like this guy could hang out all year, not just a Halloween!

These feline noisemakers are sure to be a fun addition to your Halloween decor!
