I cannot tell you how great these dyed linens for Halloween are. They look even better than in the photos. They are elegant and spooky at the same time and I think they are perfect for Halloween. This is a great project for anyone who has not tried their hand at dying fabric before. As usual I like to lower expectations before beginning a craft like this. Your results will vary depending on the fabric and the length of time your leave your fabric in the dye. But I will say that even though we are using black dye your linens will not come out dark black. They will be some shade of gray – but still very beautiful!

Supplies:
Vintage linens
Black fabric dye
Bucket
Salt
Hot Water
Gloves
Something to stir with

Prepare your dye according to the package directions. Add the salt and hot water as directed and stir thoroughly. Add your linens.

Let the linens sit in the dye – the longer the better!

Once your linens are at the desired color squeeze them out and rinse thoroughly per package directions. I hung mine out on the clothes line but you can throw them in the dryer if you want.

Once the linens are dry you can iron them or not. The dye really lets the detailed lace and tatting come through. You can see from this photo that the lace tablecloth I used did not take the dye completely so it looks like a medium gray but I still love it.

Luckily I ran out of dye or I would have dyed everything in sight! Please tag me if you try these dyed linens for Halloween. I would love to see how they come out.
