Today, we’re diving into the delightful world of second-hand furniture refresh. Who says old can’t be gold? We’re about to prove that with a splash of creativity, some nifty products, and a little DIY magic, your tired old buffet can transform into a dazzling conversation starter. I show you how to refresh second-hand furniture without refinishing it or painting. I am using some products made especially for covering imperfections in wood and you will see how this can transform a piece from used to looking like new.

Before We Begin: Let’s take a moment to appreciate the character in the “before” photo. This buffet has seen over 60 years of stories, evident in the charming nicks and scratches on its worn finish. Now, it’s time to give it a breath of fresh air without resorting to the typical refinishing or painting route.

The Grand Plan: Our mission involves more than just a facelift. We’re replacing the worn-out felt in the top silverware drawer, lining the other drawers with paper, and adding a touch of whimsy with floral patterns on the sides. Let’s inject some pizazz into this vintage gem.

Step 1: Drawer Detox: Start by removing all the drawers. If you can’t provide adequate ventilation, take your buffet outside before working the magic with Restore A Finish and Wax. Check out our linked YouTube video for a visual guide on applying the finish and wax.

Step 2: Paper Power: Time to make those drawers pop! Cut your wrapping paper to size using a ruler, leaving a little extra on each side for trimming later.

In a well-ventilated area, use spray adhesive on the back of the paper and carefully place it on the drawer sides. Trim the excess with an X-acto knife, smoothing out any wrinkles.

Repeat until all drawer sides are covered.

Measure and cut paper for the drawer liners, securing them with removable glue dots. Trim away any excess paper as you smooth it into place.

Repeat until all drawers are lined, excluding the top drawer.

Step 3: Fabric Finesse: For the top drawer, swap paper for fabric. Measure, cut, and use the same technique with the spray adhesive and removable glue dots. This soft touch will give your silverware a cozy new home.

Step 4: Admire Your Brilliance: Assemble the drawers back into your buffet and behold the transformation!

Your vintage buffet is now ready to steal the spotlight at your next gathering or be your favorite place to show off your thrifted decor with its newfound charm.
