Ahhh, the holiday season is upon us!
Christmas crafts aren’t just reserved for elementary school kids. Getting into the festive spirit is as good a reason as any to whip out the paints and give a refresh to the old ceramic houses from the 90’s that your mom gave you. What? Is mom holding onto those treasured houses? If so, they are easy enough to find at most charity shops.
Supplies:
Thrifted ceramic houses
Acrylic paints
Various paint brushes
Water, rags and containers for paint
Some festive music
You may be thinking that these ceramic houses are fine the way they are – and you would be right!!! BUT as always, I like to show you ways to make thrifted items your own so we are going to give these a makeover.
Choose a color palette. I am working with pastels gentle colors inspired by the gorgeous houses and whimsical paintings by Nathalie Lété.
Create a blank canvas for your Christmas treasures by painting your houses with a thick layer of white base paint.
Several coats of white paint may be needed.
Feel free to leave any details that you want to retain and paint around them.
Let your houses thoroughly dry and gather your paint colors.
Add delicate paint details like dots, and painted window frames and bright doors.
Using the same color palette on all the houses will create a unified village even if each house is painted in its own style.
Feel free to take creative license for the colors like I did with this pink “ground”.
