DIY Photo Postcards

DIY photo postcards

You don’t have to spend a ton of money to give someone a great gift like these DIY photo postcards. The key is to make the gift really personal and meaningful to the recipient. Gifting memories can mean so much to a loved one, whether someone close by or, especially, someone who lives too far to visit often.  For the cost of some postcard stamps, photo paper and card stock, you can give something that will send some love week after week all year long.

Another nice thing about this project is that it forces you to slow down a little. The pace of life seems so fast, especially to those of us who were around before cell phones were in everyone’s pocket. Texts and email just aren’t the same as getting a card or note in your mailbox. And with this project, as the sender you get to spend some time choosing photos, printing, gluing, addressing them and writing a personal note by hand.  This will give you some time to process your own memories and convey them in writing. If you don’t have time to write a postcard each week throughout the year, you can pre-address them, write a quick note on each and have them all ready to just pop one in the mail once a week.

First print your photos, arrange and glue them onto the card stock. Make sure your postcards meet the minimum size for USPS postcards – 3-1/2″ x 5″.  I used the glue stick but ended up adding some white glue for extra staying power.

I created 52 post cards – this is a great way to use photos that you have printed for other purposes like a birthday photo board instead of throwing them away.  Address and stamp your postcards.  Write a note on each or leave them blank until you are ready to send.

Once you have all of your photos glued to the card stock, cut them out to post card size.  If your photos are smaller, you can create the postcard by cutting the card stock to size.

Mail your first postcard and stash the rest somewhere convenient to mail one weekly!
