Candy is the big theme for Valentine’s Day in my mind. Oh yeah and love too, but mostly candy! Speaking of candy, here is an adorable craft to make in an afternoon. These wooden conversation heart magnets are so fun to arrange on your refrigerator. Try to make some cheeky sentences or create to your own sayings and have fun.

Supplies:
Wooden hearts
Magnets
Craft paint
Paint brush
Glue gun
Alphabet stamps or stickers
Stamp pad in pink
Clear matt spray sealer
Sandpaper
Tape

Step one is to prepare your wooden hearts by lightly sanding them. Decide on what colors you are using and set out your paints. Use a small dish or cooling rack to elevate your hearts so that the edges dry without sticking to the surface of your table.

Paint one side of your hearts and set them out to dry. When dry flip them over and paint the other side. You can use a hair dryer on a low setting to help the paint to dry quicker. You may need to do several coats of paint. Continue until all your hearts are painted.

Next plan out your sayings that you will stamp on your hearts. I recommend tracing a heart on paper and testing our your stamps first. You can use a piece of clear tape on each heart as a guide for the stamps so they are somewhat level. They don’t have to be perfect though. Part of the charm of these is that they look hand stamped.

Stamp your sayings on your hearts. If you mess up just wipe off the stamp with a damp rag. You might need to repaint the heart if the stamp ink is still showing.
Once you have all of your hearts stamped with their sayings you should seal them with clear matt sealer. Otherwise the ink may smear or wear off. A mod podge paint on sealer will not work since it will smear the stamped words.

Now that your hearts are all sealed and dry you can add the magnets to the back.

Use your hot glue gun to apply the magnet to just above the center on the back of the wooden heart. If it is too low it will wobble on the metal surface.

Now your conversation heart magnets are ready to display on any metal surface and they make a really sweet Valentine’s Day gift!
